I asked my Twitter followers if their employer/company have an emergency evacuation plan.
I received a letter with my invoice from Secura Insurance Companies and they wrote about this. I wanted to pass it on.
- Created a color-coded floor plan. Each color should correlate with an exit so employees know which areas use particular exits.
- Designate primary and secondary evacuation routes for each area of the building . Primary exits may be blocked, so an alternate path will help everyone exit safely.
- Clearly outline gathering areas, Each section of the building should have an indoor and outdoor meeting place where all employees can be accounted for.
- Make sure employees are familiar with evacuation procedures for each area of the building in case they are nit in their workstations during the emergency.
- Schedule drills to practice your plan. This is an opportunity to find out what parts of your plan need to be more clearly defined.
