I rented a van from Budget truck rental on 08/14/12 . I purchased the physical damage waiver. Believing as I have been told for years that I was fully covered. I wanted to be covered and not have to worry about any damages that I may cause to the rental truck. I have been renting and purchasing insurance on my rentals for over 20 years.

I was shocked to find out that all of the staff who rented the trucks to me from U-haul and Budget truck were misleading me.

The gentleman who rented the truck to me at Budget yesterday, after signing the paperwork states ” you know the insurance doesn’t cover the top of the box of the truck”. He walks to a poster on the wall with pictures of the top of the boxes on the trucks with damage due to driving under something lower than the height of the box.

I could not believe that I was mislead into believing I was covered. The damage to box tops is very common so they exclude this? Unbelievable!

The gentleman told me that the insurance company doesn’t believe it is an “accident” it is “carelessness”!  Most “accidents” are not accidental they are caused by carelessness of a driver in most cases.

Prior to renting a vehicle to be used by you: Call your insurance company to find out what is covered in case you have and “accident” in the rental truck.

Find out what will happen if the vehicle breaks down and you need to be towed.

What exactly does the supplemental insurance offered by the rental company cover.
