If your starting up a new business or you are building a new property, its important to consult with a local inspector about having a knox box installed. Knox boxes are small, key operated safes that are designed to be installed on the outside of buildings. The local firefighters should be the only ones with keys to the box and a key to the building should be placed inside. Most cities and counties require knox boxes and have the fire marshal inspect each installation. These are made so that, in the event of an emergency, the firefighters don’t have to destroy your door or window to get in, they can simply remove your key from the box and unlock the door. There are many types of knox boxes, most are made of quarter inch steel and welded together, with a high security medico lock, so that no one can pick or tamper with it to gain access. Some may be surface mounted, and some need to be installed inside the wall so the face sits flush with its surroundings.
