Unfortunately in our state and many others, you don’t have to be licensed as a locksmith. This has lead to many handy men and scamming companies advertising as locksmiths. As a customer, this leads to you being the ones that suffer for their lack of experience and professionalism. Professional locksmiths are generally members of associations like the LSA and Aloa. These associations allow us to network and communicate with each other as friendly competitors and friends. It allows us to share information on new technology and learn from each others experiences and share new technologies. When you call a locksmith, you should ask if they are members of any good associations, and if they are unavailable to work for you, they should be happy to offer the names and numbers of other qualified locksmiths in your area.
