When you lose your keys to certain things, it can be much simpler to make a key than you might think, provided you prepare yourself ahead of time. Often locks will have a code stamped into the face of the lock or the head of the key, this code is often all you need to generate a key with a locksmith. When you purchase a lock that has a code stamped onto it, write it down and store it, and when you purchase a new vehicle, request that they give you the key code. Vehicles today will still need to have the “transponder” programmed before the new key will start the car, but having the key code handy saves the majority of the labor, and in turn, saves you money.
Please remember to wright down and save your key codes some place safe to avoid more fees than absolutely needed when keys are lost.
