Winter can be quite damaging to your door hardware. The cold dry air carries a lot of debris that works its way into your locks. The calcium chloride and salts they put down on most roadways in the colder states becomes airborne and does the same damage to locks as it does to cars. Its important that you lubricate your locks often with a non-dry lubricant like WD-40. One of the like major perks to using a lube like WD-40 is that the “WD” actually stands for “water displacement” which means it will remove any existing water from locks and keep them from literally freezing up. If your locks do freeze up its important to make sure you have a good locksmiths number handy.
