Everyone wishes for security at home, but what many actually end up with is a false sense of security. You can spend thousands of dollars on your locks and your door but if you neglect to upgrade the door frame as well even the best locks wont stop that door from being kicked in. The most important thing you can do before investing in any measure of “security” is figuring out where your weakest security points are. Ask yourself questions like “are my windows secure?” “are there large shrubs blocking my windows from the street?”. In reality, you could buy a bank vault door, and have it installed on the front of your house, but if you have a window in the back that door doesn’t give you the security you had hoped for. Things like motion lights, cameras, alarm systems, and quality locks are all important to have as a preventative measure, but its important to remember that if someone wants in badly enough, there is not much you can do to stop them. You should keep your home outfitted in such a way that the common criminal will know your house wont be the easiest to steal from, and move on.

not sure if I can post links but here is an article about a locksmith who proved to the world that a “pick proof” lock wasn’t all it had been thought to be.
