Winter can be very destructive to your locks, doors and windows. The salt and calcium chloride used to reduce build ups of ice can be devastating to your home and auto locks. Make sure that every spring and fall, your locks and hinges are checked and lubricated to remove any buildup they may have. Automotive locks in particular accumulate a large amount of salt which may corrode them and causes them to seize. Its very important to not only lubricate your automotive locks, but to use them as well. With vehicles all having keyless entry remotes now, most no longer use their key and lock cylinder to unlock their vehicles. The lack of use, and lack of lubrication can actually cause your door lock cylinders to stop functioning all together, which in most situations with a keyless entry lock, isn’t a big deal, however if your remote or vehicle battery dies, you could easily be left locked out of your own vehicle. Please take a moment to lubricate and check all your home, business and automotive locks.
